LEARN FROM JESUS

by: Michele-Lyn Ault

When we keep company with Jesus — live as His student, a true disciple and learn from Him — we find rest. I don’t know how it’s connected, but it is. “All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

I get caught up in doing. Being hard working is a good thing, until it’s done in the wrong heart and in my own strength. That’s when I grow weary.

Remember Martha? She was pulled away by all her to-dos, overly occupied, busy and distracted, doing what she called “serving the Lord,” while Mary just sat with Him. Martha scolded Jesus, which I’ve also done before. “Don’t you care? Don’t you see? Look how hard I am working, striving, giving. Make Mary help me.” Do you ever hear Jesus’ words to Martha echo in your ear?

“You are anxious and troubled, worried and upset about so many things. But few things are needed, or indeed, only one. Mary has chosen the One.” Luke 10:38-42

Mary sat at the Lord’s feet listening, hanging on every word that He said, and Jesus promised it would never be taken away from her. Jesus already gave us permission to make listening and learning from Him our labor and our rest. Let us not ever give it up.
